The Porter family has owned and operated the Allwood Funeral Home for over forty years. Three generations of Porters are presently employed by the funeral home with a fourth generation looking on.
Harold Porter Jr. Born in Newark, New Jersey he resided in Kearny before serving his country in W.W.II. Harold returned home and apprenticed with DeLuca Funeral Home in Paterson. He and his wife the former Veronica Lamoureax had a son Michael Edward. Harold attended the McAllister School of Embalming in New York City graduating Cum Laude in June of 1952. Harold partnered with Andrew Mason, a local funeral director in Clifton since 1935 to form Mason & Porter Funeral Home. In 1959 he bought a residential home on the south side of Clifton and founded the Allwood Funeral Home. At that time it served as a branch location to Mason & Porter Funeral Home. Mr. Porter served as President of the family owned corporation and oversaw the day to day operations of the funeral home until his death in 1984.

Veronica A. Porter followed her husband Harold into the funeral business and also graduated Cum Laude from the McAllister School of Embalming in New York City in June of 1958. She served as the Licensed Manager of the Allwood Funeral Home until her death in 2002.

Michael E. Porter became the second generation to provide services to the city of Clifton and its residents. Growing up in the Mason and Porter Funeral Home Michael attended Peekskill Military Academy and graduated from Pennington Prepatory School in 1965. Michael married the former Joyce Thomas of Clifton and together they raised four children Dana, Michael Jr., Scott and Keith. After attending Bloomfield College, Michael attended the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Services Inc. and graduated from his parents alma mater in March of 1971 with honors. Michael currently serves as President and Licensed Manager of the Allwood Funeral Home.

Michael E. Porter Jr. became the first of the third generation to join the ranks at the Allwood Funeral Home. Michael had the unique privilege to call Allwood Funeral Home his home. A 1985 graduate of Clifton High School, Michael Jr. graduated from William Paterson College in 1989 and the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Services Inc. in August of 1990 with honors. He is married to the former Jennifer Hauck and together they have five children Cassandra, Alexis, Michael William, Miranda and David
Scott D. Porter followed in the footsteps of grandparents, father and older brother Michael. Like his brother, Scott grew up in the Allwood Funeral Home. A 1986 graduate of Clifton High School, Scott graduated from Lafayette College in 1991 and the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Services Inc. in August of 1992. He is married to the former Lisa DeMol of Clifton and together they have three children Elizabeth, Christina Maj and a William Scott.

Dana Jean Porter Messineo Also knew the Allwood Funeral Home as her home. Dana handles the day to day affairs of the funeral home as the office manager. She is married to James Messineo of Clifton and together they have a son Andrew.
